Digitizing Gas Logistics: Interview with Ulugbek Tashpulatov on ERP Implementation at Uztransgaz

While much of the global conversation around digital transformation focuses on Silicon Valley or Western Europe, some of the most impactful work is happening quietly in emerging markets. That’s what caught our attention at TechBullion when we learned about Ulugbek Tashpulatov—a systems engineer based in Uzbekistan who led a secure ERP and analytics rollout inside one of the country’s largest infrastructure companies.

Born and educated in Uzbekistan, with a degree in Computer Engineering from Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, Ulugbek was selected to help modernize dispatch logistics at Uztransgaz, the national gas transportation company. His ability to bridge local operational realities with best-practice digital architecture offers a rare look into how transformation really happens in critical public-sector environments.

Ulugbek, tell us about your background. What prepared you for this kind of project?

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent in April 2018. During my studies, I focused heavily on ERP logic, web technologies, and systems design. I was particularly interested in how IT systems could be applied to optimize real-world business operations.

Shortly after graduating, I was invited to participate in a pilot digitalization project with Uztransgaz. The company was looking to modernize its internal warehouse and inventory operations, and I was brought in as part of a team tasked with implementing a functional, scalable ERP-based system.

What exactly did you work on at Uztransgaz?

My responsibilities included configuring 1C:ERP Enterprise 8, designing data architecture, and deploying infrastructure that could handle real operational demands. I focused on modules for inventory control, inter-regional equipment movement, and reporting.

I also implemented Google Data Studio dashboards, connected to ERP exports, to give managers live insight into stock levels, warehouse flow, and procurement trends. These tools replaced manual Excel reporting, which was often delayed or inconsistent.

Was your work limited to software?

Not at all. One of the most critical aspects was building the infrastructure to support the system. I set up a Synology NAS with RAID-1 for secure on-premise storage, configured automated backups, and deployed Bitdefender GravityZone across connected machines to prevent cyber threats.

We also enforced two-factor authentication (2FA) and role-based access control across all system users to ensure data privacy and accountability.

How did you ensure usability for non-technical teams?

This was one of the most important parts of the project. Many users were not familiar with ERP systems, so I developed clear SOPs, ran on-site trainings, and created user-specific guides for different job roles.

By aligning the system logic with actual dispatch workflows—and showing staff how the system reduced their manual workload—we built confidence and trust in the tools.

What results came from the implementation?

The ERP pilot improved operational visibility and brought a high level of structure to inventory and asset tracking. Dispatch units gained access to real-time data on equipment movement, and reporting became more accurate and transparent.

The leadership at Uztransgaz acknowledged the value of the system and initiated discussions to scale it further within the organization.

What are you most proud of in this project?

That I was able to contribute at every level—from backend ERP logic and NAS configuration to training and analytics. The system we built wasn’t theoretical. It was used daily by dispatch teams to move real assets and make informed decisions.

For me, it proved that even in traditionally manual industries, you can create reliable, secure, and scalable systems that improve efficiency and reduce risk.
